  just thought i should share a bit of my story with you all, i'm on this board everyday and can't stop reading.

  i was raised as a witness by my mother and grandmother, dad and gramps weren't witnesses.

  i was baptized at 15, i believed it was the truth but was still pushed into baptism by my mom, she thought it reflected negativly on her as a mother that i wasn't dipped yet.

  Why The Hell Do People Defend Israel?

  first i see a lot of americans defending israel's execution of at least 9 peacekeepers and the attempted murder of several others.

  now people are calling helen thomas a bigot?

  the most evil and bigoted people live in israel.

  The situation in Israel boils down to (aside from whatever agreements & deals have taken place) the jews want that piece of land for themselves & their culture the muslims want that piece of land for themselves & their culture, and neither group is going to let go. They won' t live together now because they both want their own world.

  The only way Israel will hang on to that land is to become more ruthless & lose their soul. They are in effect occupires but now really where could they go. The palestinians are not getting just treatment but if Israel opens up everything freely & justly they will be over run & lose their world & they fear that because the palestinians will become the majority.

  this situation is not good for either side. Its too bad it has come to this and so much death & suffering has taken place.

  If I'm so intelligent how did I get drawn in to it all?

  i consider myself an intelligent woman...maybe not strong on the 'common sense' front, but academically i've done pretty well...so...how on earth did i not see through it all when i was studying in the beginning???.

  i remember worrying about their 'sales pitching' styles and their arrogance of believing they had the 'truth' ...but still i got involved and became totally immersed in it all.

  i feel like i sacrificied our whole family to them, who now shun me.. yesterday, my new son in law, he's a lawyer, asked me how i could have believed it wasnt a cult (topical word this week here) he said he didnt understand how i could have been persuaded to believe it all and trust them with so much and for so many years...... i feel ashamed of myself that i did and that i brought all this upon our family...anyone else relate?.

  When I look back on my bible study I realiize that I had a misconception. during the studies I asked lots of questions and disagreed with some things and I thought open discussion was the way of it even after being baptized if I didn't agree I just put it in the we don't really know the answer to that question catagory. However, as time went on I would have conversations that were met with silence and looks of fear and then I discovered deceit in the literature and you know where that led.

  So don't beat yourself up over it. We were all just looking for something meaningful and we thought for a moment we saw it. fortunately we have the courage to admit it and continue our search and our lives.

  I was 36 and believe it or not I was contacted at the door and I thought it all sounded interesting because it was all new to me now I realize how little I knew about it at the time. there was no internet to check everyone seemed so nice & sincere and I just didn't see what was coming.

  i was inspired by a few different things people said.. one dealt with if you pray(ed) regularly with your husband/wife.

  a few people described how awkward they felt in doing it.

  i felt like that for the longest time!

  I knew something was wrong when I started dreading the assemblies, conventions and co visits and I especially hated the false excitement a couple of weeks before the fakey talks about how we were all looking forward with anticipation to a week of increased activity. I hated the corny statements " I just can't wait for the co visit their so wonderful". They always had some ridiculous counsel about head coverings or no one should see star wars because it has the word wars in its title. I remember one bozo telling everyone they shouldn't see titanic because of the breasts.

  another thing I hated was being in service waiting the car and someone returns all excited "we just started a bible study" yea tell me how its going in a couple of months. all this artificial happiness and elders giving talks asking" are we doing these things brothers & sisters?" knowing full well no one was. It all just started making me sick.
